Alan was born in England, grew up in Canada (the prairies), lived in the Artic for 10 years, moved to USA. He now lives in Nevada, outside of Las Vegas in the Mojave Desert. Alan has four degrees a BSC (Hons), a Masters of Natural Resource Management (MNRM), a PhD in economics and ethics and most recently a Certificate in “Studio). This is a two-year program where he got to improve his studio practice in woodturning and took several courses in Art History and Drawing. During his second year of his Master’s program he received funding from the Ford Foundation and during his last year of Doctoral work he received a grant to pay his final years tuition. He has put all of his learning to good use spending about half his working time as a management consultant. First self-employed, then as part of a small national firm. He eventually managed their norther office. During his last years as a consultant, he worked independently for several Yukon First Nations as they negotiated a treaty with the Federal Government. The treaty encompassed 16,000 square miles if land and approximately $450 million in various compensations. He has taught at the College level for 25 years. As a professor he has taught economics. finance, remedial math, philosophy (Great Philosophers and Business Ethics). He prides himself with liking his students and working with them providing every opportunity for a successful completion of their studies.
