PhD in Business Administration

The Business Administration PhD Program is a rigorous, research-intensive prograspanninger two years. During the first 18 months, students will complete all mandatory and elective courses, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. After finishing coursework, students will focus on developing their research thesis proposal.

Unlike some other programs, the Business Administration PhD Program does not require a comprehensive exam. Instead, each course is evaluated through various of assessments and exams, ensuring that students have a deep understanding of the material before moving on to their research.

Overview

Windsor University offers a continuous intake process through admission dates twice a year in September and May, allowing students to join the PhD program any semester. Many of the courses are stand-alone without prerequisites, giving students the flexibility to complete all program requirements. In order to graduate and receive their PhD degrees, students must complete 60 credits (change this according to the accreditation requirements), and submit and successfully defend their thesis.

The program:

The program is structured in three stages. During the first stage, students will enroll in mandatory and elective courses (could be self-study) related to their specialization areas. Additionally, students will work with their assigned supervisors based on their study area to discuss research ideas, develop research proposals, present their ideas, and engage with their peers.

In the second stage, students will prepare for their thesis by submitting a portfolio of work or an extended research project and completing and defending their thesis proposal.

The final stage is dedicated to conducting research for the thesis and defending it.

Research and Thesis

The culminating requirement of this program is the submission of a comprehensive thesis that embodies the researcher’s extensive research and findings. Under the guidance and supervision of the designated faculty member, the thesis must demonstrate a mastery of the subject matter and incorporate original research. Upon completion, submission, and successful defence of the thesis, the researcher will be awarded a PhD degree.

The thesis process includes the following five stages:

  1. Preparing the research proposal that sets out the aims and objectives for the PhD: the original topic the student plans to study and/or the questions set out to answer.
  2. Literature review that surveys the work in the chosen area of study of current scholarly literature that relates to the research project or to related topics and forms a part of the final PhD dissertation.
  3. Conducting investigations, research and collecting results. This stage might include the following: designing experiments; recording and analyzing outcomes; assembling and managing numerical datasets; designing surveys or conducting case studies; producing produce quantitative or qualitative data; and analyzing texts, sources and other materials.
  4. Writing and submitting the final write-up of the PhD Thesis and culmination of all literature review, research work, findings and recommendations.
  5. Defending the PhD results through a formal procedure leads to a defence conference with appointed examiners.

Admission Requirements:

To be eligible for admission to the program, applicants must fulfil specific requirements, including the successful completion of a master’s degree from an accredited university or college. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate English Language proficiency unless they have completed a university degree at an institution where English was the language of instruction. This exemption is put in place to ensure that applicants can actively participate in the program and comprehend the course material thoroughly.

In addition to meeting these requirements, applicants must submit a Statement of Research and Professional Interests, three recommendation letters, and a comprehensive curriculum vitae. The Statement of Research and Professional Interests should outline the applicant’s research goals and interests. At the same time, the recommendation letters should provide insight into the applicant’s academic achievements and potential for success in the program.
