Student Retention Program
How Windsor University helps every student stay on track, keep up with coursework and complete the program.
Purpose
Windsor University wants every student who starts a program to finish it. The Student Retention Program brings together the steps we take to spot difficulties early and to support students before a problem affects their progress.
Early Alerts
Student Affairs reviews each student's activity in the Moodle Student Portal every week and reminds students of the participation they need to pass.
- If you have no academic activity for 7 days, we send you an email reminder.
- If you are at risk of failing a course, we email you a reminder before each live session and ask your instructor to follow up with you.
- If you need academic or technical help, we refer you to the right instructor or staff member.
The Attendance and Leave of Absence Policy states the participation each program requires and the notices we send.
Orientation
- General orientation: before your program starts, University staff introduce themselves and show you how to use Moodle, Microsoft Teams and your Microsoft 365 account.
- Program orientation: faculty explain the purpose of your program, its learning outcomes and what you need to complete it.
- Course orientation: at the start of each course, your instructor presents the learning outcomes, the course outline, the grading system and the schedule of live sessions.
We record each orientation and post it on your course page in Moodle, so you can watch it again at any time.
Small Live-Session Groups
Live sessions and lectures are held in small groups, so that every student can take part, ask questions and get feedback during the session.
Regular Assessment
Each course includes regular quizzes and assignments that count toward your final grade, so that you and your instructor can see early if you are falling behind. We plan due dates so that the workload stays manageable. The Grading Policy explains how your work is graded.
Advising and Tutoring
Student Affairs and your instructors advise you on your study plan, course content and any difficulty you meet. To ask for tutoring, write to [email protected]. Instructors may also invite alumni to share notes, lectures or learning resources with current students.
Capstone Thesis Checkpoints
In the Capstone Thesis course, a faculty supervisor sets the deadlines for each part of your thesis and meets with you every week. Each part of the thesis is graded separately, so you receive feedback at every stage.
Learning From Alumni
Instructors may share recorded videos in which Windsor University alumni talk about the program, their courses and how their studies have helped them in their careers.
Career Workshops
We hold career events in Washington, DC and online and offer resume assistance on request, for current students and graduates. Windsor University does not guarantee employment or placement. See Career Support and Resume Assistance.
Internships
No Windsor University program requires an internship to graduate, but we encourage students to look for internships. Our programs include practical coursework, such as case studies and applied projects.
If You Are Falling Behind
Write to Student Affairs at [email protected] as soon as you can. Together we agree a plan to get back on track. If you need time away, you can ask for a leave of absence under the Attendance and Leave of Absence Policy. The Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy explains the minimum standards and what happens if you fall below them.
