Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy
The minimum standards you must meet, when your progress is checked, and what happens if you fall below them.
Purpose
Windsor University measures your progress in two ways, quantitative (how much of your coursework you complete) and qualitative (the level of your grades), and tells you where you stand at the end of every semester.
Minimum Standards
| Measure | MBA, Accelerated MBA and Hybrid MBA |
|---|---|
| Qualitative: cumulative GPA (CGPA) | 3.0 or higher on the 4.0 scale |
| Quantitative: completion rate | At least 67% of attempted credit hours completed (credit hours completed divided by credit hours attempted) |
| Course credit | Only courses with a grade of C (73%, 2.00) or higher earn credit |
| Maximum time frame | 45 credit hours attempted, which is 150% of the 30 required |
Career diplomas
A student completes a diploma with an overall result of at least 70% on the diploma's assessments (projects, case studies, presentations and practical work 80%; discussions and live-session participation 20%), within the maximum time frame below.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
ESL does not use a GPA. Progress is measured by achievement of each level's learning outcomes and by the Duolingo English Test (DET): Level 1 (CEFR A1–A2) 45–70, Level 2 (CEFR A2–B1+) 70–95, and Level 3 (CEFR B1+–C1) 100, which is also the program completion requirement. A student who does not meet a level's standard is placed on academic review and receives additional instruction before moving to the next level.
Maximum Time Frame
| Program | Length | Normal length | Maximum time frame (150%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| MBA (online) | 30 credit hours | 20 months (5 semesters) | 45 credit hours attempted, within 30 months |
| Accelerated MBA (online) | 30 credit hours | 12 months (5 semesters) | 45 credit hours attempted, within 18 months |
| Hybrid MBA | 30 credit hours | 12 months (5 semesters) | 45 credit hours attempted, within 18 months |
| AI Fundamentals diploma | 24 semester credit hours | 6 months | 9 months |
| Cybersecurity diploma | 16 semester credit hours | 4 months | 6 months |
| Cybersecurity for Business Professionals diploma | 16 semester credit hours | 4 months | 6 months |
| English as a Second Language | 3 levels, 648–864 clock hours | 36–48 weeks | 54–72 weeks |
For the MBA programs, credit hours attempted include passed, failed, withdrawn, incomplete and repeated courses and credits accepted for transfer. When a student reaches the maximum time frame without completing the program, the Chief Academic Officer reviews the student's record and tells the student the result in writing. The University may allow the student to continue only if the student follows a written academic plan approved by the Chief Academic Officer and meets the attendance and conduct policies. Otherwise the University may terminate the enrollment.
When Progress Is Checked
At the end of each semester, ESL level or diploma, the University checks your progress against the standards for your program and sends you a written progress report. Your advisor also checks whether you can still meet the minimum standards and finish within the maximum time frame.
Academic Standing
- Good standing: you meet both minimum standards.
- Academic probation: if you fall below either standard at the end of a semester, the University places you on academic probation for one semester. The University sends you written notice that says what you must achieve and that failing to do so will result in dismissal. You and your advisor agree on an improvement plan.
- Return to good standing: you return to good standing at the end of the probation period if you meet the minimum standards for your program (for the MBA programs, a CGPA of at least 3.0 and at least 67% of the credit hours attempted in that semester) and you follow your improvement plan.
- Dismissal: if you do not meet these requirements by the end of probation, the University dismisses you by written notice that states the date and the reason. The University may also dismiss a student under the Attendance and Leave of Absence Policy or the Student Code of Conduct.
Appeal and Readmission
- Appeal: to appeal a dismissal, send a letter to Student Affairs at [email protected] within 10 calendar days of the dismissal notice. Explain your circumstances, attach documents (medical, personal or financial) and give a plan to return to good standing. The Chief Academic Officer decides in writing within 20 calendar days.
- Failed courses: if you fail a required course, you must enroll in it again by the next intake. A fee applies for each retaken course, as stated in the Enrollment Agreement. You may enroll or re-enroll in a course a total of two times. After that, the University dismisses you.
- Capstone Thesis: a student who failed only the Capstone Thesis may ask for a course extension. The Chief Academic Officer decides the extension period in writing. The Enrollment Agreement states the fee for a course extension.
- Readmission: a dismissed student may apply to the Admissions Office for readmission three years after the date of dismissal.
